Drought, as the most significant hazard among climatic risks, has severe negative impacts on the economic resilience of rural settlements. To enhance the economic resilience of these communities, various strategies exist, with the first step being the identification of existing challenges. This study aimed to identify and analyze the factors affecting the reduction of rural economic resilience in response to drought in Mahneshan Township. The research is developmental-applied in nature and follows a qualitative approach based on the grounded theory method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis, with simultaneous data collection and analysis. The interviews continued until theoretical saturation was reached. To enhance research validity, a focus group evaluated the findings. Data analysis was conducted in three stages- open, axial, and selective coding- using ATLAS.ti software for organizing and extracting final categories. The final model was refined with focus group approval. The results indicate that the decline in rural economic resilience is driven by factors such as climate change, dependence on traditional agriculture, high production costs, lack of job opportunities, and migration of the young workforce. These issues are exacerbated by natural resource degradation and inadequate infrastructure. Weak financial support and insurance-related challenges also pose major obstacles to improving rural economic conditions. To strengthen economic resilience, strategies such as promoting sustainable agriculture, managing water resources, developing cooperatives, reforming land policies, and establishing marketing networks are proposed. Implementing these measures can help reduce migration, increase sustainable income, improve productivity, and foster the development of supplementary businesses in rural areas.
