Social media, due to its high interactive power, provides global audience access for residents of tourism villages. Social media, due to its high interactive power, provides global audience access for residents of tourism villages. The aim of the present study is to investigate the role of social media on the tourism development of the eastern part of Guilan province. The present study is a correlational-analytical type and library and field methods were used to collect data. The statistical population of the study is the heads of households in seven tourism target villages in the east of Guilan province. Based on the 2016 census, the total number of households residing in these villages is 1,374, and using the Cochran formula, the required sample size for completing the questionnaire was calculated to be 385. The face validity of the questionnaire was assessed by experts, and the reliability of the variables was calculated to be 85% through the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Statistical tests such as (one-sample t-test, regression, and Kruskal-Wallis H test) were employed for quantitative data analysis. The results indicate that social media has had a positive impact on the indices of interactions (3.1740), networking (3.7781), economic (3.4527), and social (3.4915), and a negative impact on the indices of reach scope (2.1693) and institutional (2.7499). in the regression model fit, the coefficient of determination was equal to (0.955). The ranking from the Kruskal-Wallis H test also shows that Hassan Sara and Sarolat villages in Rudsar county have experienced the greatest impact, and Anbarsar village in Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh county has experienced the least impact from social media on tourism development.
