Problematic and deteriorated urban fabrics, including informal settlements, are common features of contemporary cities. A review of the literature on social regeneration with an authenticity-oriented approach highlights the complexity of this concept, given its multidimensional nature and challenges in urban planning, particularly in the revitalization of deteriorated areas. Accordingly, the present study aims to develop stimulating scenarios for fostering social regeneration of the deteriorated texture of Zanjan with an authenticity-based perspective. This applied research adopts a descriptive-analytical method combined with a futures research approach, employing the MicMac technique and Wizard scenario method. The findings reveal that variables such as sense of identity, youth willingness to continue residing in the fabric, investment inclination, satisfaction with visible and invisible police patrols, absence of vagrancy, formation of voluntary security patrols, and nighttime safety for pedestrians and cyclists exert both strong influence and dependency within the system. These indicators thus require special attention in guiding regeneration strategies. The scenario analysis indicates that three potential scenarios could strongly shape the future, with Scenario 1 (score 52) emerging as the most pivotal. Among the defining factors, the assumption of “creating moderate fabric attractiveness to retain and attract younger populations” stands out as the most critical for ensuring the sustainable regeneration of Zanjan’s deteriorated fabric. The study underscores the need for authenticity-oriented interventions to secure socially resilient and future-proof urban environments
