Abstract
Today, the widespread presence of vehicles and the increasing share of pedestrian crossings have created many problems for cities and have turned sidewalks into places for passing. Meanwhile, sidewalks can play an important role in increasing social interactions and encourage people to be present in the space and create a connection between people and space. In the meantime, the neo-urbanists believe that the strengthening of public spaces such as sidewalks will revive civil life and enliven the space. Considering the innovation and originality of the study, the present applied research has analyzed the effects of the sidewalk on people-space connection. The research method is descriptive-analytical in nature and the statistical population of the research includes 30 experts with experience in the field of pedestrians. The data has been collected through field observations and library studies, and the evaluation stage of the research tool is in the form of a questionnaire, which is distributed among experts in one round with the Delphi technique. The results showed that the Zanjan square green pedestrian walkway has positive results in terms of functionality and the sidewalk has been able to have a positive effect on all its indicators, including sociability, legibility and visual appeal. The security index in the perceptual dimension showed a positive result, it can be concluded that the sidewalk has been able to ensure the safety of citizens by applying appropriate solutions. Also, in the structural dimension, only the index of facilities and user mix could have a positive effect, and this shows that the sidewalk has weak points in the structural dimension and measures should be taken to improve its structural conditions.
