Abstract
The phenomenon of segregation has become a major issue in order to achieve a stable and integrated society for big cities. The consequences of segregation not only affect all social groups, but also affect the structure of metropolises. In Tabriz metropolitan, with the greater division of labor that has taken place there, the segregation in its spatial structure has also become more visible. Examining the amount and severity of segregation at the metropolitan level is essential for urban management and a better understanding of its effects. Therefore, the aim of this research is to measure the intensity of social-spatial segregation among educational groups and the distribution of educational classes in the spatial structure of Tabriz in 2011. The research methodology is quantitative, descriptive-analytical in terms of purpose, and practical in terms of type. Based on the data of the 2011 population and housing census of Iran Statistics Center, educational data at the level of statistical blocks in 10 regions have been analyzed in two structural (non-spatial) and spatial modes. The structural dimension is used to measure the intensity of segregation of educational groups through four classical single-group indicators and three local indicators, and the spatial dimension is used to analyze the spatial distribution of educational groups in Tabriz metropolis using the kernel density method. The results indicate moderate to low segregation for educational groups based on classical indicators, although the highest intensity of segregation among educational groups belongs to the high educational group (master's degree-doctorate) with a numerical value of 0.6310 in the density dimension. The way of spatial distribution of educational classes is based on kernel density index, cluster structure and multicenter spatial pattern in Tabriz metropolis. Tabriz has a medium to low segregation in the social dimension and between educational groups except for the high educational group.
